Sunnybrae Vineyards & Winery

Working away from home and family most of his life, Barry Turner spoke often of establishing a home based business that would provide employment for his family. It seems none of his three lovely daughters were interested in careers in road building! So in 2005 Barry and his wife Nancy their daughters, husbands and grandchildren began planting their seven and a half acre lakeside property in five varieties of cool climate grapes.

“Sunnybrae” is aptly named and boasts its own unique micro-climate…perfect for growing grapes. The meticulously groomed vineyard is nestled below Bastion Mountain at the back and the magnificent Shuswap lake shoreline. The south sloping volcanic ash land basks in sunshine during daylight hours and enjoys cooling breezes in the evenings.

The craftsman style winery building built in 2010 showcases vintage artifacts and photos of Barry’s family, farmers in the Sunnybrae area for five generations. Visitors are invited to the second floor wine tasting room to enjoy delicious white, red and rose wines made on our premises using 100% B.C. grown grapes. Beautiful glass doors open to our upper deck and a stunning view of the lake and Mount Ida. You may even be lucky enough to have a birds eye view of the ospreys that nest in distant fir trees.

The staff at Sunnybrae Vineyard and Winery look forward to helping you with wine choices, food pairing information and on prebooking a tour of the family vineyard and wine making area.Come to the sunny side and enjoy a casual fun-filled experience.

The Turner’s have benefited from the expertise of many in the past six years. Nancy’s cousin Lloyd Schmidt , an original partner at Sumac Ridge Winery in Summerland B.C. has been a frequent visitor and advisor. Lloyd’s first advice to Barry was “Never plant a vineyard bigger than your wife can look after.” With input from local consultant, vintner Hans Nevrkla and his wife Hazel. Penticton consultant Mark Wendenburg and wine maker Jesse Steinley join Barry and Nancy in inviting you to enjoy wines produced at Sunnybrae Wineries.

Come and see this stunning family vineyard and marvel at the varied flavours of products made from our Kerner, Ortega, Siegerrebe, Schonburger and Marechal Foch grapes.
